My Poppet

I'm very grateful that I live in a fantastic part of Melbourne, well actually, plonk me anywhere and I'd be happy, but I particularly like our neighborhood. We've lived here for over 14 years now and I've seen quite a few changes around the place, slow changes (I like slow), some not so great but more often than not pleasant changes. We live about 5 kilometres inland from Elwood. We live close by to the ever bustling Glenhuntly Road shopping strip which has an eclectic mix of retail shops, amazing pastry shops, cafes and some reasonable fashion boutiques. Basically it can be hit and miss but new businesses are popping up all the time, some destined for greatness such as my local favorite haunt My Poppet. Now I know many of you may be familiar with the My Poppet shop, the My Poppet blog and the lovely Ms Cintia and her online store Poppet in the Post but I'm in the mood for bragging because lucky for me the shop is just around the corner which makes for a lovely walk in the Winter sun with my gals.

For a petite little store My Poppet is stockpiled with awesome kids accessories, local designer labels such as my fav Morgan Wills and her exquisitly handcrafted Mumma & Baby Bushkas, pretty handmade trinkets, local art and a stack of vintage goodness. I happen to know that Ms Cintia is a deft hand at sewing and stocks her own exclusive label Cinti Does Vintage (very cool kids label). I visited at the right time yesterday and crossed paths with the very busy owner and new mum Cintia who happens to be on maternity leave. I caught a glimpse of her gorgeous baby Emma (4 months old), Ada and Emma had a brief baby bonding moment whilst Wilhelmina tinkered in the corner with a strategically placed basket of toys for the little visitors (good thinking Cintia). My main reason for visiting yesterday was because I am on the prowl for some pretty socks for Wilhelmina (is it just me or is it incredibly difficult to find cute knee high socks for 3 year olds?) Unfortunately I didn't fulfill my sock quest but I did buy a couple of pairs of funky huggalugs leg warmers that Wilhelmina approved of. If you are in the hood drop into My Poppet and say hi, there's always plenty of neat things to purchase and be inspired by.

I left a happy Mum with some special treats for the girls and the biggest bargain was a Miffy baby record book reduced to $10, now i have to back date all of Ada's progress and get some photo's printed (I'm a bit slack).

I've also listed a few other local haunts worthy of a visit (given a thumbs up by me and the little folk)
